About Us

The Rotary Club of Ahmedabad West (RCAW) is a prominent service club in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, with a rich history of community service and fellowship. Chartered in 1987, the club has grown over nearly four decades into an active network of professionals and philanthropists dedicated to Rotary’s motto “Service Above Self.” The club currently has over 45 members from diverse professional backgrounds, and it meets weekly at its own Rotary Centre in the city’s Satellite area.

Rotary Club of Ahmedabad West is a dynamic and respected Rotary club that has been “Doing Good in the World” since 1987. From its charter by passionate Rotarians in the late 80s, through establishing a landmark physiotherapy centre in the 90s, to innovative service projects in the 21st century, the club embodies the Rotary ideals of fellowship and humanitarian service. Many great people – entrepreneurs, professionals, and social leaders – have been associated with RCAW and have contributed to its story. This page of Club is narrative is one of camaraderie, continuity, and community impact. As it stands on the threshold of four decades, Rotary Club of Ahmedabad West continues to create lasting change in Ahmedabad through its projects and to inspire new generations to join in the spirit of service

History and Founding (1987-Present)

  • Charter and Early Years: Rotary Club of Ahmedabad West was officially chartered on 20 February 1987, expanding Rotary’s presence in Ahmedabad. Shri Guljari Lal Nanda the former PM of India was chief guest of our first installation in 1987 and in his presence the club was chartered. It was one of the new-generation clubs in the 1980s that built on Rotary’s legacy in the city.
     
  • The club’s Charter President led 26 initial charter members in laying the foundation for a vibrant club (the first Rotary club in Ahmedabad dates back to 1936)  Over the years, RCAW steadily grew in membership and stature, fostering leaders who would serve both the club and the Rotary district.
     
  • Leadership and Installations: The club has a tradition of annual leadership changeovers (installations). As of 2025, 38 club presidents have been installed in its history The 38th Installation Ceremony was held on 18 July 2025, marking a proud milestone of continuity and service.
     
  • Each year’s president and board build upon past initiatives, ensuring continuity in the club’s service projects and fellowship activities. The club is part of Rotary International District 3055 and has hosted important district events; notably, RCAW served as host for a major Rotary Leadership Institute training, reflecting its reputation within the district. Several members have also served in district roles, and the club even sponsored the formation of a new Rotary clubs .
     

Rotary Club of Ahmedabad West started Rotaract club of West blind in 1992 which was first of of it’s kind Rotaract club in the world and is still functional.

Vision for the Future: Looking ahead, Rotary Club of Ahmedabad West aims to continue its legacy of impactful service while growing its membership with committed individuals. Goals include developing a “full-fledged medical and educational facility” as a mega project in the coming years, an ambitious plan that could build upon the existing physiotherapy centre to offer more healthcare services or vocational training. The club also plans to intensify its work in literacy (adult literacy centres) and youth mentorship, aligning with Rotary’s focus on basic education and literacy. Environmental projects are on the horizon too, as the club recognizes the need for sustainable initiatives in urban areas  Through strategic planning sessions, members of RCAW have laid out these aspirations, ensuring that the club’s projects remain relevant to community needs.
